Do I have to pay taxes if I buy a laptop computer when visiting Gibraltar?
I am an American who will be in Gibraltar. I will be passing back through Spain on my way to Morocco later that day. If I purchase a laptop in Gibraltar, will I have to pay taxes on my way out? To whom will taxes be paid? How much will taxes be on a 1000 E computer?

Answer 1 :
Yes you will have to pay taxes on the computer... I don't know the amount...(that would depend on the cost of the laptop) But...I have just managed to get hold of a friend who goes shopping in gibraltar every so often...and asked him if he knew the answer to your question He said it isn't really worth your while to buy it there, as you not only have to pay the taxes, but you need a special international guarantee, which depending on where you live, may be impossible to have endorsed or be able to claim on. In which case your "inexpensive" laptop will have cost you a "pretty penny" if you have to pay to have it fixed or replaced. Gibraltar is great for cigarettes, certain liquors, some english food from the Safeway supermarket (articles not easily found in Spain), some clothes in the british shops....And filling your cars tank on your way out! By the way, my friend just purchased a laptop in Fuengirola at "Telephone Tinas" shop, says the price was excellent (about 765 euros), the brand well known, and with a 2 year guarantee.
Answer 2 :
Not sure, but something not to forget is that you will pay taxes on purchases over $400 you bring back to the States in addition to any you pay abroad. Normally you can get the VAT refunded when you leave a country

Why do flies keep landing on my laptop screen
Why do flies keep landing on my laptop screen?
I'm working in Spain, lovely sunny day, doors are wide open but the pesky Spanish flies keep landing on my laptop screen. Its a nuisance, I have asked them to stop but they don't speak English. What can I do?

Answer 1 :
bugspray works best.
Answer 2 :
Try to ask them in spanish. You might go to www.freetranslation.com and try there for free.
Answer 3 :
theyre just attracted to the light and warmth oh and www.freetranslation.com isnt always accurate.
Answer 4 :
I think it's bescause you are small in the pants
Answer 5 :
Get rid of em
Answer 6 :
Try to keep a glass of cheap spanish wine nearby. They'll get pissed as farts and you can work in peace with your computer and a decent glass of white. Flies prefer red, by the way.
Answer 7 :
They simply like to BASQUE in the sun. I use fresh lemon juice around{not on} my laptop. Probably need to avoid the Spanish fly until needed

Answer 1 :
your laptop needs to be compatible, but it is possible, though it will cost a small fortune to keep you connected over an US carrier...
Answer 2 :
wifi standards are the same in EU as in US. chances are that your laptop has wifi card already built-in

Answer 1 :
first off lol, they won't think of it as a bomb......they'll ask u to take the laptop out of its bag and just check. secondly, u ARE allowed to take your laptop on the plane. just that you can't use it during take-off or landing. air hostesses will even notify you of that. as soon as the seat belt sign goes off after take-off, you can use your laptop on the plane then during landing, they will notify you again and you will have to switch it off!
Answer 2 :
It's spelt "allowed". They X ray it. The end.
Answer 3 :
Yes, you are 'allowed' to take a laptop on board an aircraft. You will be asked to remove it from the bag and put it into a separate container/bin for x-ray scanning. Comply with the instructions regarding its use during the flight and you will be ok
