Can I take an Ipod docking station on an aeroplane
Can I take an Ipod docking station on an aeroplane?
We're flying from England- Spain with Thomson. According to their website- Electronic equipment including mobile phones, laptops digital cameras and MP3 players (such as i-Pods). NB: Any large electrical items including laptops will be subject to additional examination and screening and need to be removed from hand baggage prior to the security search point. This is talking about hand luggage, does anyone know if there'd be any objections to me having the docking station in my suitcase? I don't want it in my hand luggage, they say I can do that on their website but would it be ok to have it in my suitcase?

Answer 1 :
they will have no problem with you taking a docking station for your ipod in your hand luggage at all. have a good flight
Answer 2 :
They only want to check these items for precautionary measures. Many electronics like computers that can remotely control other devices or they can convert some electronics as remote control devices. They want to ensure the safety of the aircraft while on flight

Do Laptop Bags count as hand luggage
Do Laptop Bags count as hand luggage?
Travelling to Spain soon an I'm flyin with MONARCH AIRWAYS. i plan on taking my hand luggage onto the plane (purse, camera phone etc) and then my laptop in it's own laptop bag is this allowed? because technically that would mean i have two bags!
Packing & Preparation - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
No - it's a personal bag. Woman can carry a purse, guys a laptop. Plus you usually have one carry-on bag.
Answer 2 :
Don't worry, hand luggage can be from 5-10 kg (varying on every airline), and woman's handbags/purses aren't considered to be hand luggage! Your laptop bag will be the one counted

My wi-fi laptop is good, it just doesn't work in France. Do they use a different radio frequency there
My wi-fi laptop is good, it just doesn't work in France. Do they use a different radio frequency there?
My HP laptop is wi-fi enabled. This is great in England and in Spain. I am unable to use this wi-fi in France. Perhaps the French use a different frequency and maybe I have to buy a new wi-fi card to use while I am there. Perhaps I should buy an 811.n card.Comments would be appreciated.Arthur

Answer 1 :
considering the french have a different way of doing almost everything else, I suppose its possible they have a different frequency for wifi. However its more likely that you are simplyin an area that does not have any useable signals. The format of wifi is universal and the frequency range would be the same whether its in the Americas or not....Siemens did just add a new area to central france but as far as I know, its not everywhere (pretty much like the rest of the world).
Answer 2 :
There may not be any hot spots for internet access in France
Answer 3 :
WiFi should work in France. Please note that 802.11n is just another type of Wifi so it shouldn't make any differance.
Answer 4 :
France uses different steps (or distance between frequencies) in their wifi. To use theirs (if your wireless card supports it) Go to device manager (right click on "My Computer", then click on "Properties", then "Hardware" tab, then "Device Manager" button). Then find your wifi card, right click, hit "Properties", click "advanced" tab, and then there would be an option for what country. Just look at everything in the list and see which one pulls up a Value of : FCC or USA. Once you see that, click it and change it to France. This is for Windows XP, if you have another Windows OS, the steps are simliar

Answer 1 :
You need some good playlists on your i-pod to start off with then if your not sriving you need to get a good sudoku book, not olly does it train your brian it keeps a compeative and determination streak to complete it kicks in.
Answer 2 :
ipod book (if u dnt get sick) scoobies?(they are these little thread thingst that u like make sort of frienship breacelet things out of) phoneeee magazinee sleep! puzzles pencils, paper to draw and write stuff withetc. eatttt :) play games with teh people ur in the car with. eye spy etc. umm if i think of anything else i'll edit and put it in.. but soz thats all i got!
Answer 3 :
You can get some books on CD, and listen to those with your family. It could actually be a lot of fun. You can play travel games, like finding something that starts with each letter of the alphabet. Or make up bingo sheets beforehand, with things you think you might see out the window. Whoever gets bingo (or blackout) first, wins. Sleeping is a good option. Singing in the car is a favorite of mine, but I realize not everyone enjoys that. Bring a cookie sheet or large tray with an edge, and you can use that as a little desk. If you line it with felt or fleece, you can also use it as a card table for solitaire. You can write on it, or draw pictures of things you see on the way (although sometimes the car is too bumpy for that). Get postcards at each stop, and make a travel diary with that. If you don't get carsick, you can also try reading, word puzzles (wordsearch or crossword, or sudoku, maybe, even though that's numbers). My daughter also suggests that you eat something. (-: It seems like forever, but the time will pass.
Answer 4 :
Are you driving the car? A good playlist can be fun, or you can try an audio book. Audio books are good inventions of humanity

Can you plug a laptop in on an airplane to be charged
Can you plug a laptop in on an airplane to be charged?
On "http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/United… website it says that the power type is an "AC Power", I'm not really sure what that is. But does that mean if I purchase an AC Adapter for my computer I will be able to charge it on the airline? I am flying from America to Spain. Thank You
Air Travel - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Yes, that is what it means. The plugs on Boeing aircraft and on Airbus aircraft made for american carriers accept standard two prong USA and European plugs. Double check the location of your seat to make sure there are plugs where you are sitting. For example, Delta A330 aircraft only have plugs in the first 20 rows of coach. Yo should also be aware that there are limitations on the power output. I have a 90 watt power pack for my Dell computer and I cannot charge it on many planes because the power output is rated for 50 watts or less. Have a great flight
Answer 2 :
AC power is the standard outlet there is everywhere, such as in your home, or at work. Your standard laptop charger can be charged in one of those outlets. There is no need to purchase anything else. Have a great trip

computer help! looking to buy a netbook/mini laptop
computer help! looking to buy a netbook/mini laptop?
Hi, I am going to Spain for the summer and I would like to buy a netbook/mini laptop to bring with me. The only things I want it for are: 1. internet access; 2. uploading my digital photos from my camera 3. watching DVDs 4. word processing. I am told that where I am going has wireless internet access (as to what type I have absolutely no idea). I know hardly anything about computers and find all the specs so confusing! If someone could list what specs I should look for that would be really helpful! I've also included the info on two laptops I've been looking at - will they be good enough? The first one: Acer Netbook A0A150 $220.00 Intel Atom processor N270 (1.60 GHz) 1 GB RAM 160 GB SATA HARD DRIVE 9" LCD DISPLAY Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 High-definition audio support, Two built-in stereo speakers Built-in digital microphone SD Card reader 3 USB 2.0, 1 VGA, 1 Headphone/speaker/line-out jack 1 Microphone-in jack Integrated Acer Crystal Eye webcam 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet wireless b/g network adapter battery pack and AC charger WIN XP SP3 The second one: Dell Mini Inspiron 910 $220.00 Processors: Intel AtomTM Processor (1.6GHz, 512KB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) Operating System: Genuine Windows XP Home Edition SP3 Memory: 1GB2 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Chipset: Intel 945PM / GS Express Chipset Graphics: Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 950 LCD Display: Glossy 8.9 inch LED display (1024X600) Hard Drives: 16GB Power: 4-cell 32WHr Li-Ion Battery Any advice would be very helpful! Answer 1 :
Most netbooks do not have dvd drives. In fact, the Dell mini 9 that you posted I know for a fact doesn't have one because that is what i use. I also don't see a dvd drive in your specs on the Acer. You can always purchase an external optical drive if you wanted to. Otherwise, look at laptops/notebooks. I thought my friend's HP netbook had a dvd drive? The rest of the specs will all be standard. Might want to make sure you have a webcam on the computer if you want to skype your friends while you are away. PCPrime http://www.pc-prime.com/blog
Answer 2 :
right mate im in a very similar position to you at the moment heres some general advice though - avoid acer, my experience and from what i can gather, most peoples, is that acer are a rubbish company - poor build quality, unhelpful customer service...you get the idea dell is a good company, and i do like the products, but again, the mini range isnt all that great my honest advice would to be to go for either a hp pavillion dm1 1101sa - this is a really good 11.6" netbook, and its slightly more powerful and much better build quality if not you could always go for the dell 11z, which is just a bit better than the 9" version so to sum it up. 9" netbooks are underpowered and i find them far too small to use. they also have NO dvd drives, so you need to buy an external dvd drive, these cost around £20 11.6" netbooks are slightly more useable and about twice the power, and i think they would be a better option for you as they are still very light and have a better battery life if you need any more advice, dont hesitate to email me cheers - George
Answer 3 :
You can get better battery life (from the newer N450 processor vs the N270's you have here) and a 10 inch screen for $299. Depending on how important battery life is to you, also look at the size of the battery (3 cell, 4 cell or 6 cell) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+Inspiron+Mini+Netbook+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Atom%26%23153%3B+Processor+-+Obsidian+Black/9693525.p?id=1218150611743&skuId=9693525
Answer 4 :
I would suggest 1)Dell Inspiron iM1012-687OBK Mini 1012 10.1-Inch Obsidian Black Netbook - Up to 8 Hours 8 Minutes of Battery Life * 1.66GHz Intel N450 Atom Processor * Memory: 1GB SD RAM * 160GB Hard Drive (5400RPM); 802.11 a/b/g Wireless Connectivity * 10.1" Display; Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 * Windows 7 Starter; Integrated 1.3mp Webcam; 6-cell Lithium Ion Battery http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-iM1012-687OBK-10-1-Inch-Obsidian/dp/B00361G10S/?tag=bdd-linking-001-20 Try to search here you can find more options : http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=netbook&x=0&y=0&tag=bdd-linking-001-20
Answer 5 :
Hi have 2 laptops - 1 is a standard 17" laptop and the other is an Asus Eee hpc - it has a 10 Hour Battery, wifi etc... and I love it, I use it for everything and have hardly ever used my old laptop in the 1 year that I have had it. I couldn't recommend it any more.
Answer 6 :
Neither one of those netbooks has an optical drive, you would have to buy an external one. Check Dell Inspiron 15.

Safe storage in Barcelona
Safe storage in Barcelona?
Does anybody know whether there is secure luggage storage at Barcelona Airport (El Prat) or at an easily accessible location in Barcelona itself? I will be traveling with some friends in Spain in June, in the Catalunya region. We will have some valuables (laptops, cameras) with us because of a conference we attend earlier in the month, and would like to store these items (if possible & advisable) at a safe location in Barcelona while we travel around the region. Any other suggestions for safe storage locations around Barcelona would be appreciated. Thanks!

Check the link below (third question). http://www.aena.es/csee/Satellite?MO=1&SMO=8&SiteName=BCN&c=Page&cid=1045569610836&p=1045569607367&pagename=Estandar%2FPage%2FAeropuerto I've never used storage for more than a few hours, so I'm sorry I can't suggest anything for a longer period, as it is your case. But considering the price I wonder if it wouldn't be better (and cheaper) to have it sent from your home by courier to your hotel just the day before your conference.
Answer 2 :
there is also one at Sants station

Should i download man on man porn onto his hard drive for revenge
Should i download man on man porn onto his hard drive for revenge?
I just posted that my boyfriend backed his files up on my hard drive and left like 5 porn pics of girls, which is really rude, so should I ... a. get revenge by downloading guy on guy porn onto his hard drive ( im keeping his laptop for him while hes in spain, he gets back tomorrow) or b. hold out for something better, like make him make it up to me another way, anybody have any ideas?

Answer 1 :
ok here is what u do... find a pic of some really gay guy on guy action put it in the startup folder. Start--programs--Startup then when he signs in it will pop up, and if hes not good with computers he'll never find it lol
Answer 2 :
that would be the funniest and most wrong thing in the world. especcially if he looked at it in front of his friends.
Answer 3 :
Depends. Are you looking to break up? If not, hold it over his head and have him treat you special. Don't wait too long, however, because even if he knows what he did was wrong he'll forget within a week. If you're looking to break up replacing his porn with man-on-man would be awesome. It will, however, piss him off. I think it would be all right to load man-on-man porn onto his computer so long as you watched it with him. He'll squirm and complain - and you can get your "revenge", but watching porn with your girfriend is sexy no matter what kind it is

Getting internet access abroad
Getting internet access abroad?
I'm studying in Zaragoza, Spain for 9 months this coming fall. I'm purchasing a laptop solely for this trip and I don't know what to do about internet access while I'm over there. I will be staying with a family and I don't know if they have internet access or not.

Answer 1 :
If the family doesn't have internet, then you can get to any of the internet cafés...But I'll bet they will have connection right there at your apartment. My niece is living in Moldova (which is a third world country) and her family just recently put in a connection, so she can work right from her home. I'm sure, also, that there are wi/fi places around...possibly labs at the school?
Answer 2 :
There are WiFi hot spots if you know where to find them. I'm using a laptop now with a radio signal here in Spain. Alternatively, you can go to an Internet cafe or perhaps where you are staying they have access.
Answer 3 :
WiFi, and Their internet will be free... if you get there and they don't... (most people do, my grandparents got internet this year!) Then you can get mobile broandband, or if you have an o.k mobile. it ,would be cheaper to get a 7,50€ (unlimited connection) on your mobile for a month if you can do E-Mail, and MSN/WLM IM programs On your laptop it will cost a lot more with Vodaone you're looking up to 49€ a month for unlimited usage or as little as 1€ a day for small usage But the internet is free in the Libury, most places have WiFi McDo ect. have WiFi that you can pay for usiing a debit card-some are also free if you wait with the laptop - if you're from the U.S.A I know things ARE cheaper in the U.S.A but if you want a cheap laptop that is small - a netbook. most give you the modem free - which will save you around 50€ in PC City http://www.pccity.es/netbooks_1940_pc.html So it might be worth it if you was going to buy an expensive laptop, and how much 300€ compares to in your money.-it will be in Spanish, and they don't have CD Drives any questions feel free to ask =) but Vodafone is the cheapest/fairest for Mobile Broadband in Pre-Pay
Answer 4 :
I did your exact situation last semester, except it was only 6 months. Fortunately, the family did have WiFi. If they do not, you have a few options. Unfortunately, a direct line isn't an option because the contracts require at least 18 months. You could either get a USB modem, use internet cafés, or just use the WiFi at school. A USB modem has many plans, but the only pre-pay plan I found was through Vodafone. They do exist, so check all the companies: Vodafone, Movistar, Orange, and Yoigo. Internet cafés do exist, but I haven't used one myself. The WiFi at the school was a bit stressful, but when connected and working, it was fine. There were also computers at the school to be used by students in the library and study room. If the family doesn't have internet, I'd recommend either the USB port or internet cafés. The Centro Politecnico Superior in Zaragoza (where I studied) used an online software to post assignments and class notes, so internet access may be a must. I hope your family has internet, and I wish you the best of luck! If you have any questions regarding the city, living with a family, or anything at all, feel free to email me

actually if you have a zune it will be easier than if you have an ipod. but assuming you have an all-around MP3 just plug it into your laptop. it will recognize it and give it a drive letter. C is your hard drive. D is your disc drive. it will probably assign E or F but whatever it is open it up find a file that says something like MUSIC and open that. keep going until you find your song. copy and paste it to your laptop. Buena suerte

Access my computer when abroad
Access my computer when abroad?
I have seen ways before but havent looking into much detail about it. Is there any software that allows me to access my main computer when abroad. Say for example I travel to Spain for 2 weeks. But I want to bring my laptop with me and be able to use wireless in Spain, but yet connect to my main computer back home to access files ect. Is there any good way in doing this, also wanting to access music ect. I am sure your saying why dont I just copy them to laptop before leaving, but I currently use my laptop only for work and not for fun. But when away on holidays, I would like to be able to access my main computer. Hope to hear some good methods soon. Thanks!

Answer 1 :
A good way to do this is to get a server. A server is a host that holds information that a lot of times you can access from anywhere. Sign up for Yahoo! Geocities, they provide you with an amount of room that is more than suffice for holding documents and music.
Answer 2 :
Go to http://logmein.com Download logmein to give you remote desktop control, and hamachi for remote file transfers.
Answer 3 :
if you have XP Pro on your home machine, then you can create an Remote Desktop Connection between your laptop and home machine. To my knowledge XP Home cannot be connected to with XP Home or Pro, but XP Home can connect to XP Pro. Also, if you have Vista, things changed a little. This product is built into XP so you are able to use it when needed

Yes, under crew instructions. Electronic devices are not permitted to be used during takeoff and landing. Your laptop will most likely not be allowed to connect to the Internet (due to potential frequency issues). However, you can watch DVD's, etc.
Answer 2 :
well, when i went on a plane, people were using laptops. that was Delta airlines. also, just wanted to say that the security let me get through a knife AND a lighter without even catching them. i didnt mean to bring them but it makes me feel worse about airport security

Can not use the laptop on take off or landing, but once you get to cruising altitude, the pilot or flight attendant will let you know that it is ok for laptops use.

I am going to europe this summer..do I need to by a voltage transformer/adapter thing
I am going to europe this summer..do I need to by a voltage transformer/adapter thing?
I am going to italy france and spain. Do i need to buy one? I plan on taking my laptop and ipod touch charger....so how expensive are they? what are the best ones?

Answer 1 :
Yeah you need one. You can buy kits at electrical stores (the shack, brook stone). They have adapters for sale at the airports. I'm in China and they sell adapters for less than 1-2 USdollars. Have fun in EUROPE man
Answer 2 :
Yes, you will need it for europe. Here's what you need. Its not expensive but its good to think of ahead of time because they can be hard to find in stores: http://www.eforcity.com/universal-to-europe-travel-plug-adaptor-cothplugeu01.html?efprcggbadtf090605=SC+gb+cothplugeu01
Answer 3 :
Check your laptop lead, in it or as part of the plug there is a little box, and on that box there is a mention of the voltages it can run on. Most laptops can run on 100 to 240 volts, including the USA as well as Europe and most of the rest of the world. If it only has 100 to 120 you will need a converter or a new lead. Your ipod charger also has a mention like that. And it is also likely to be 100 to 240. If they do not, in either case it is likely cheaper to buy a new lead or charger that can handle both 120 and 240 volt, but you can also buy a converter. Those are more expensive and heavy to carry, so most people will want to avoid them. The plug will almost certainly need to be different from home. In Europe there are a few different ones, one for England, and one for most of continental Europe at least. You can buy those cheaply at most of the travel shops and in most electronic shops. There are universal adapters and there are also smaller adapters that are good for one kind of plug only. You do not need an expensive plug adapter, the cheap ones are good enough

Is there any way to copy a right protected dvd, i have a dvd burner on my laptop?
i downloaded dvd shrink and i have no idea how to use it... i also dowloaded imgburn and again i don't know how to use that either... please help.... and the burn software is sonic record now... dvd shrink gave me problems saying cylclic redundancy check on one dvd.... please help i am trying to copy my collection to send to my friend who is in spain for 6 months thank you I really could use step by step instructions... if you could provide me with a website or anything that would be great
Software - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
you have to have a decoder to do that. then you can copy anything. it is called a capture device.
Answer 2 :
Google for dvd43.exe and download it. It is a tiny little program that inserts itself when run as a "layer" between your DVD drive and the computer - it basically allows your drive to (a) ignore copy protection and (b) play any region. Fab and free. Mark
Answer 3 :
I also used to use Shrink DVD. It is very easy. But Shrink DVD doesn't copy all protected DVD... I strongly recommend you to purchase 1click DVD to burn the lastest DVD that are protected and encrypted.
Answer 4 :
Is this not stealing that's why you can not do it or its hard to copy it? Think they but some kind of anti copy stuff on it. I know your friend what's the to hear the music but he should buy his own. Answer 1 :
you have to have a decoder to do that. then you can copy anything. it is called a capture device.
May be you can copy some money for him and send him that so he can buy some same Cd's but cost you less on shipping

try doing it with samsung pc studio. via it you can transfer all your images in one go or pair your phone with your laptop. You can do this by going to control panel and then add device. During pairing allow your laptop to connect automatically to your phone

CD Restore disc needed urgently
CD Restore disc needed urgently?
I need an English Language recovery disc for Acer Aspire 7720G. I bought my laptop in Spain and all of my programmes are in Spanish. My friend has a restore disc for a different Acer would they work with my laptop
Software - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Sorry this recovery disc must be purchased with a Laptop. but friends one should work as well
Answer 2 :
Are you talking about a Windows restore disk? If you don't have one available, you can go to www.download.com and look for Active Boot Disk. It's saved me twice already. They have a free trial (you can only use once..per email it seems...) But it will create a boot up disk for you on CD or USB. It's real easy to do. Free and I know it works. But not sure if that's what you're looking for? You can probably search for "restore" or something at www.download.com and you can narrow your search to just free stuff by clicking free in the left hand bar. Good luck to you

Sprint Mobile Broadband?
I heard something about a chip to put in your computer for wireless internet. I've read that all the US is covered on it but I'm curious if you can make it work in Europe or if there is another brand or something where I can bring my laptop to Spain and have wireless internet. Thanks!

there is no "chip" to put in your computer. You are talking about a wireless card that you put in ur laptop to access the sprint wireless internet.....and yes it should work in europe as long as Sprint has service for the internet there
Answer 2 :
no, it only works within the US

What is a Heuristic Virus
What is a Heuristic Virus?
Can some one please advise me what this is and how to remove it as it is stopping me using the internet for more then a few Min's thank you norton 360 s blocking it and it takes me o the inter net I have used my laptop in Spain an I am very worried about this
Security - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
For THAT type of Virus, you must either have a LIST of the applications and files available in your Windows, System, and System32 folders to Compare.....and selectively remove the ones that don't belong...or, put in a System disk, and re-install a fresh copy of Windows, but leaving the other files intact. That will allow you to at least run your Safe Mode, so you can use whatever program you need to get rid of the malware or virus. http://malware-virus-spyware-remover-tools.blogspot.com/
Answer 2 :
Heuristics is about looking for things that aren't known to be viruses but look like they could be. The majority of antivirus programs use heuristic scanning so that they can catch new viruses that they don't have listed in their database. Each time you update your antivirus program, it's being sent a list of new viruses and info on how to recognise them and that info gets stored in the database. But viruses that no antivirus company has seen and analysed yet could get to your computer. Heuristic scanners look for things like: - does this program want to access the internet? - is it taking down details of the key strokes on the computer? - does it want to make changes to the registry? - does it clearly say that it comes from Microsoft and have Microsoft's special code in it? (To some extent, I'm making up those things... they ask that type of question but I'm not sure exactly what - still, it helps you understand what is going on.) So a heuristic virus is something that your antivirus thinks is probably a virus but it hasn't received info that tells it for sure that it is or isn't. Sometimes they are right and sometimes they are wrong but the extra safety of heuristic scanning is suitable for many computer users

Travel Advice for picking up laptop
Travel Advice for picking up laptop?
I need to get from Rome to Granada, Spain, round-trip, for the purpose of picking up my laptop and iPod that I will not be using while backpacking! Should I go by plane, train or bus?! I am confused...is it even possible to go from Rome to Granada by train? Thanks so much.
Other - Destinations - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Is there no one in Granada who can send them by courier service to you in Rome? In any case, go by plane! The price will not be cheap but at least you'll be saving a lot of time if your sole purpose for the trip is to collect these items. Iberia flies Rome to Granada via Madrid. Ryanair + train may be a cheaper option. Go by train from Rome to Bergamo, and fly from Bergamo to Granada-Jaen. Rome is a long way away from Granada. An overland journey means travelling along the west coast of Italy northward from Rome, continue into French riviera and south of France, then along the east coast of Spain all the way to Granada. It's over 2,200 km of driving distance!!! Besides, I am not aware of availability of direct train and so you will have to break your journey down. A lot. Rome-Milan (4 hours by Eurostar, 3 1/2 hours by Eurostar-fast), Milan-Barcelona (14 hours by night train), Barcelona-Granada (11 hours by night train), so you could travel up to 29-30 hours!!! Not to mention, it's going to end up very expensive anyway. If you want to go with a bus option, Eurolines run from Rome to Madrid, and from there take a train to Granada. The bus journey is some 30-31 hours, while the train another 4-5 hours

laptop charger tip melting!! very hot!! and the tip is now stuck inside the laptop itself
laptop charger tip melting!! very hot!! and the tip is now stuck inside the laptop itself!?
My girlfriend owns a Amilo Pi 1536, she's had for about 2years and never had any major issues with it. But in the recent month or so, theres been quite serious problem. The charger connector (the metal/plastic bit that connects charger and laptop) gets very very hot, touch it and you get slight burnt! The charger tip has had to be changed, the plastic had melted and smelt burnt after awhile. So, the tip's been changed and the the overheating tip is still an issue. And now the tip has (i think) melted inside the laptop and is stuck inside the laptop. how can i remove the laptop charger connector from the laptop? The laptop it self seems to be working well and quite hot, but with the norm (I think). Its just the charger connector tip that's the problem. Any help guys!! Please!! Could it be the charger not working correctly? The laptops PSU not up to scratch? Bios problem? ... I don't want the laptop to stop working altogether!! PS. the laptop was bought in Spain, and we're in the UK (if that's a possible problem). Battery life isn't great. Already cleaned the laptop with compressed air and have the fans with good access to air (the laptop is on "stilts").

Answer 1 :
It sounds like something's shorting. I'm surprised the charger even runs the laptop. I hate to say but this sounds like it was a bad deal. Only thing I can think of is buy another charger and see if it works with the laptop, assuming you manage to remove the old charger from the laptop. Crazy stuff.
Answer 2 :
I think there is some sort of short inside the laptop associated with the connector. Since you've replaced the charger tip, I think a new charger is not going to fix this problem. I suspect you are hosed as getting repair for such a machine in the UK is likely to be impossible. Most likely, a replacement motherboard would be required. Laptops are cheap these days. I n the US, it is esy to find high quality refurbished HP and IBM laptops for $300 - $500. You'll spend more than $200 to even see if this can be fixed. Get rid of it and get a better laptop from places like ecost.com or buy.com Astrobuf

How does a TV tuner card work? What exactly are it's functions
How does a TV tuner card work? What exactly are it's functions?
I am studying abroad in Spain and I want to be able to watch all the NBA games from my laptop. Can I buy a TV Tuner card and be able to watch all the ABC, TNT and ESPN games from it. Do I have to tune in live, cuz' we're about 6 to 8 hours ahead over here or can I record the games? Is ABC going to be the only one of these networks available because TNT and ESPN are cable networks? So can I go buy one and be able to enjoy all the NBA playoff games through my laptop with this TV Tuner card or what?
Laptops & Notebooks - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
A TV tuner card is a computer component that allows television signals to be received by a computer. Most TV tuners also function as video capture cards, allowing them to record television programs onto a hard disk. TV tuners are available as PCI-bus expansion card, PCIe (PCI Express) bus or USB devices.
Answer 2 :
A TV Tuner card picks up TV signals and converts them to computer data. It effectively turns your computer into a TV and video recorder. You can't use one to watch ABC in Spain because ABC doesn't broadcast in Spain. You would pick up only Spanish channels (unless you were near the French border, in which case you would get some French channels, and so on)

i'm worried about my laptop and battery cable adapter thingy overheating. any tips?
i own an IBM Thinkpad laptop which i use a lot ie it's often on for about 24 hrs. recently the ac adapter that i plug into the wall overheated and burned out so i had to get a new one. i've noticed the new one gets extremely hot, as does the underside of my laptop occasionally (sometimes it's hot sometimes it's not!). i'm concerned that this could be due to the fact that i bought my computer in the uk and am using it in spain with a mains adapter. when the ac adapter blew so did the 3 amp fuse in the plug. the adapter has input- 100-240V and output 16V- 4.5A. i have no idea about this kind of thing. any ideas?

Answer 1 :
Your ac adapter is bound to get rather warm/hot because of the windings. Regarding your laptop make sure that all vents are free from dust including the fan. Spanish voltage is compatable with UK.
Answer 2 :
Get a usb driven cool pad from best buy, they cost about $20 and they keep your laptop cooled off and helps them to run better. you can get a pad that plugs into the wall but it is a pain if you are traveling or moving around the house just get one that plugs into your laptop. As for your ac adapter, you just shouldnt leave it plugged in for long periods of time

Not sure of my visa requirements for Spain
Not sure of my visa requirements for Spain?
I am a US Resident and Mexican Citizen. I work in IT and can basically work from anywhere in the world as long as I have my laptop and an Internet connection. I currently have a two year contract (the company is not Spanish and they do not have a Spanish office) so I am thinking about moving to Barcelona for a while. Does anyone have any idea of the sort of visa I would require (since I already have a job) or how hard it would be to get a visa for someone in my situation? From what I understand, I have a little bit of advantage over some foreigners (being Mexican) if I ever wanted to become a Spanish citizen but I don't know if there are any pluses if I just want to get Resident status. Thanks for any help! Thanks to everyone that answered. To clarify about the advantages I would have as a Mexican if I wanted to apply for citizenship after being a resident: From what I have read, Mexicans and citizens of other Latin American countries can get Spanish citizenship after two years of being a resident of Spain. Plus, I would not have to renounce my Mexican citizenship.

Answer 1 :
In your "special" case you would need to apply for a Residence Visa for Non-Lucrative Purposes; see the requirements on the attached weblink. http://www.consulate-spain-chicago.com/ ..
Answer 2 :
That consulate link is probably your best contact. I don't know what sort of advantage you think you have over other foreigners...unless your parentage is close enough to get you expedited citizenship. I think it's one grandparent was a Spanish citizen by birth, or something like that...the consulate can clear that up, too. The advantage to being a citizen is that you would be able to work for a company there, or anyplace else in the EU, under current laws. But that might mean giving up your Mexican citizenship, which you would want to weigh the pluses and minuses.
Answer 3 :
keep in mind the latinamericans are not welcomed anymore in spain, whether you are educated or not, if u don't look like luis miguel, be careful. the mexican citizens must have a invitation letter, but u as an u.s. resident, may not need that requirement, however, don't forget the fact that u, as an U.S. resident, must live and dwell within the USA to keep your status, if u get caught ...forget about ur U.S. residence status. bye.
Answer 4 :
First of all, you can't just work from anywhere. Parts of Spain broadband is very slow. Mine occasionally stops with bad weather or whatever. Very frustrating if you are trying to work on it. It's easy to find out about visas, check the Spanish embassy website through Google, or phone them up and ask. You have no advantage over someone coming from another EU state as they have a right to come here. The only advantage being Mexican is you will be able to converse in Spanish

Lost friend in Barcelona,Spain
Lost friend in Barcelona,Spain.?
I have an online friend who suddenly went offline in a middle of conversation (I'm sure it's accidental, like something was wrong with the laptop) and he never came online for a week since. I'm pretty sure he's not avoiding me 'cos we're really good friends. I live in an Asian country. The only info I have about him is his full name, and his MSN e-mail. He's residing in Barcelona and his hometown is in Cordoba. I regret that we did not exchange phone numbers. Any ideas how can I find him? He doesn't have Facebook or any of those accounts but I did find traces of him in several Spanish websites but he didn't seem to be online since that day. Any ideas how can I find his cellphone number? Help and thank you! I'm pretty worried if something bad has happened to him.

Traveling to Spain, need advice on power adapter
Traveling to Spain, need advice on power adapter?
I have done a ton of research on this topic. I now that the devices that we will be taking (Laptop, Camera, iPhone & Blackberry, wife's curling iron) are all rated at input: 100-240V & 50-60Hz. So, I won't really need a voltage converter, but rather just some adapters. And, as I understand it, I will need the 'Type F' adapter. I'm not really sure if the hotel I will be staying in has grounded plugs or not, but my laptop is the only device that has a ground. All the other devices are ungrounded. Is the grounding issue something I should worry about? Also, do people normally simply buy adapters for each device, and plug them in separately? Or, is there another option? Thanks

Answer 1 :
If you have done "a ton of research", then you know that there are two types of electrical devices: A VOLTAGE CONVERTER, and a PLUG ADAPTER. If you are SURE that your items are dual voltage (and it looks like they are), then you need plug adapters. Plug adapters are available at any store that sells luggage. They run about $3.00/each. Nope. Most places don't have the same sort of grounding system in Spain. yes, you probably want to have a couple of them. However, if you don't bring enough, you can pick them up at any hardware store in Spain, and there's, like, two on every block, so...not going to be a huge hardship.
Answer 2 :
Most, if not all, hotels in Spain have grounded electrical sockets . The ungrounded ones have two pin holes and are usually sort of rectangular like some shaver sockets. The grounded sockets are round shaped and the round plug or adaptor is pushed inside. The ground connection is via the metal strip on the top and bottom of the adaptor. (If my explanation makes you think of grandmother and egg I apologise!) I sometimes worry about grounding but modern electrical systems have trip switches so I hope that the fear of the ungrounded is unfounded. Don't forget to switch from 110 to 220 on the appliances that need them. I prefer Samsonite adaptors because they are smaller and neater so can go side by side. Some cheaper models have oversize flanges so you can't use two side by side.
Answer 3 :
We use E and F, along with Europlug type C If you're staying in a hotel, look for Europlug Type C You can buy the others, but they'll be larger than needed... --The problem is, for example my cell phone is a Europlug, it isn't designed to be put into an F socket which is recessed... therefore I can't charge my phone from a plug in my bedroom -__- it simply doesn't stay in the wall socket xD blä Like Guiri said, most likely in you're hotel you WON'T have grounded/earthed sockets and so it would be a Europlug type C they are designed for there's not danger mixing the sockets, some things need earth, others don't. - Things like your iPhone, and Blackberry you can charge from your laptop via USB, even your camera. You're laptop, you could look into buying the brand you have for example Dell. But a European plug socket, to plug in. For added piece of mind. and I have no idea what to say about curling-tongs, depending on the value to risk breaking them ?

you might need more then just a plug, like an adapter or a volt changer
Answer 2 :
Try to unplug then plug it in again or buy a new charger or buy a new battery.
Answer 3 :
You will probably need an adapter to change the current input from Europe to US

Problem to connect my laptop to internet
Problem to connect my laptop to internet?
Hi I have the following problem. We have Internet in house with TV and I telephone of old ntl of virgin now average. At the moment we have connected to single Internet a PC with moden of ntl, but we want to connect my laptop whose software is in spanish. Somebody knows of some router compatible to be able to connect both PC? I must router D-Link dsl-504T which I brought of spain, know if this it is been worth? Thanks beforehand.

Answer 1 :
As your Virgin Broadband is cable and not telephone based you could be running into problems. If you have 1 computer working well on the internet then add your router to that one with your laptop and run the home networking wizard, allowing sharing of the internet connection when asked and telling the laptop it connects through another computer or residential gateway and it ought to work OK, just both computers have to be on to use the Laptop on the internet

I am going to Spain and need to find the right power adapter or converter to charge various things
I am going to Spain and need to find the right power adapter or converter to charge various things.?
I'm afraid that I will get over there and not be able to charge my battery for my camera (I can't just use regular batteries with it), and I would like to take my laptop if the power is not that big of an issue. I have heard that sometimes adapters and converters do not work and you're stuck. I'm also afraid that if I plug it into one it will cause something bad to happen to the batteries. Also, I've heard that most laptops will automatically convert the power and be able to handle 220 instead of 110. How do I check this? Any suggestions?

Alicante Spain to Sweden. Ryan air
Alicante Spain to Sweden. Ryan air?
Hey guys, I'm currently in Alicante, Spain. I'm going to Sweden this week, my ultimate destination is Örebro, but any station/airport in Sweden is fine. I heard a lot about Ryan air and how cheap their fares are, but a little search online revealed a lot about hidden luggage fees. I looked at their baggage fees table thinking "They can't be serious" as it would total to more expensive than the flight itself. I have one baggage roughly 20 kilograms, a sidebag for laptop, and a guitar. Does anyone have any experience with them? Is this the best option? Or what other cheap way would you suggest to get to Sweden. My dates are flexible and travel time is not a big issue as long as it's cheap. Thanks guys.
Other - Europe - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
You can only have 15kg in hold luggage, an extra 5kg will be expensive. You can have one piece of carry-on luggage only, so your guitar may have to go in the hold, but then it may have been that way with other airlines too. Ryanair are a very cheap airline, but once you start paying for extras they become expensive.
Answer 2 :
Ryanair have 2 rates for checked luggage when 1 bag/case is carried. At this time of the year 15kgs will cost you £15/€15 for a single flight. 20kgs increases to £25/€25 per one way flight. Extra kgs after this do become expensive. But don't forget you can carry on up to 10kgs hand baggage, but it must be one bag only, not exceeding 55x40x20cms. So if your checked luggage looks like going over the 20kgs, you will have to take something out and put it with your laptop in your "sidebag". http://www.ryanair.com/en/questions/table-of-fees The safest, and maybe cheapest, way to transport your guitar, depending on the price of tickets, is to purchase an extra seat. http://www.ryanair.com/en/questions/can-i-check-in-a-musical-instrument-or-purchase-an-extra-seat-to-carry-it-in-the-cabin Good luck

Wireless Internet in Spain
Wireless Internet in Spain?
I am going to Spain for about a month or maybe a little longer, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a temporary air-card service I could use with my laptop while I'm there.
