Answer 1 :
I understand the rain in spain falls mainly on the plain.
Answer 2 :
Yes, take your laptop n ipod n stuff - Spain is not a third world country. Talk about fashion, soccer, anything at all - talk about movies and who you like.. favorite music.. that sort of stuff. You'll probably have more in common than you think!
Answer 3 :
Well juz talk to her about your life... how its treating you and about your friends and stuff like dat... plan to go somewhea to hang out and meet some otha new ppl.... Some ppl gets nervous about meeting otha ppl sooo talk to her thea a lot of stuff to talk about in dis world gurl!
Answer 4 :
first say hello to her and ask her name and ask which school do you study whats your favourite subject and which songs do you like well you can bring the ipod and laptop to show her if you like...i think shell be excited to see it...Good Luck!!
Answer 5 :
take all your stuff, you will have a great time. If nothing else use the translator on the computer
Answer 6 :
Dont sweat it, theres nothing more natural than meeting people from different cultures, youll do ok. One thing that could be important is to warn her of the bad sides of town, places to avoid, and personal safety stuff that they may not need to know about in Spain?.....Ask her for some more Spanish lessons and phrases etc, ask about Spanish guys, go to the mall, go out for ice creams and scope the boys? go swimming, or to the beach, go sightseeing, playstation games?? hell the world is your oyster.
Answer 7 :
ok. first of all dont be nervous. ur both 13 year old girls and the only real difference between you is your culture. You should talk with her abuot what you would talk about with any other 13 year old but find out a little about her culture first just so you can get to know her. You can talk about music or clothes or something to break the ice and ull realize shes no different from you. you can bring your laptop and ipod only if your going to listen to music with her or do something together on the laptop. Dont make her feel out of place. Accept her as a friend not as an outsider. Hope everything works out!! _-*Sarah*-_
Answer 8 :
Just be normal, how you are in everyday. What do you usually do when you aren't in school? Take her with you when you do your normal things. She isn't from mars, its not like you don't speak her language, but she has a lot to offer you, also, don't close your mind to that thought...... You could bring your laptop and ipod with you, but share this with her, it will help you close the gap. No doubt she has these at home, so seeing something familiar or able to check her email will be awesome for her to do, and share with you her friends back home.. I hope the time goes by smoothly, but panicking is not the best thing. Being her friend while she is here is the best thing......after all, did she want to come here? Was she forced to come here or was it mother who MADE her come here and have to hang out with some American kids her age....? Think in all perspectives, I know you will have a good time....plus I am hoping you make a good friend.
Answer 9 :
I think she would be more worried about you ignoring her if you bring the 'pod and 'top. However, if you offer her the use of both of them as well, it should work out fine. I also think she is probably far more nervous than you, since she is much farther out of her comfort zone than you are. Bring some magazines too, something to flip through and converse about. Perhaps a board game, or a favorite movie You never know what you'll have in common, and she might be open to learning about some of your favorite things! Have fun, though, and don't stress out too much about it. I think you'll both find you have a pretty good evening!
Answer 10 :
ask her about things she likes before she comes and search the things on the internet so you could have an idea of what shes talking about
Answer 11 :
make up, hair, and cloths...girls can do that without talking,,,just LOL painting your toenails and finger nails also

When Going To Spain, How Do You Start
When Going To Spain, How Do You Start?
I am going to Spain next year with my dad and missing two months of school. We aren't really sure where or when in the year to go yet. Also the cost of things, and how many people speak English. I'm trying to get a student card to get discounts on travel expenses, and also a laptop to do school work on. Is there wireless connection in Spain? We wanted to go at a time of year wear we could see some snow some places, but maybe go swimming in others if that is possible. And, I was trying to find an inexpensive apple laptopon Ebay, but I'm not sure if I trust ebay. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly apreciated. Thanks :)

Answer 1 :
there is wireless connection and only a few people speak english
Answer 2 :
Spain has the same technology that we have here. Contrary to what on person said, many people speak English, especially in the big cities and popular tourist place like Costa del Sol. You can see snow in the Sierra Nevada as late as May, and then go to the beaches that are close and it should be warm enough to swim. Here's a website for you to check out: http://www.spain.info/ You should ask your computer questions in the computer section, you will get better answers.
Answer 3 :
Spain is NOT an English speaking country. You will find some people who speak English, but, by and large, they speak SPANISH there. In some places, they speak other dialects...catalán in Cataluña, and similar dialects in Valencia, the Baleares, anda along the Mediterranean coast; Gallego in Galicia, and Euskadi in the Basque areas. Finding people who speak understandable English, in many parts, can be difficult, but that depends where you are. But then, that is part of the adventure of traveling in another country! The cost of things? probably comparable to home, but then, that depends where home is, since you don't say. Yes, Spain is an industrialized nation, at the forefront of the world, technologically. They have wireless connections. Snow AND swimming? I suppose if you arrive in March, there will still be snow in some of the mountains, and you'll stay through May, and find nice swimming. How do you suppose you are going to make up two months of school? I mean, you will learn SOOOOOO much from touring the right way, but your school is allowing this? Lucky! Laptop? Try getting a reconditioned one through Apple, directly. They should give you some sort of warranty that way? If you haven't got any sort of itinerary, email me. I can probably help you make plans where you can enjoy yourself, and learn some important history and such... And, check the museums and monuments for when they offer free entr (you can do that online...most are on Sundays.) Also for what days they might be closed.
Answer 4 :
Where to go: Barcelona (check out Gaudi); Sevilla (especially if its during easter! Any of the southern cities are incredible places to experience 'semana santa' - what they call easter); Madrid (their post office is a mansion, better than buckingham palace i'm sure, and the retiro park is gorgeous and so is the palace by the opera house) and you have to go to northern spain!! Bilbao is gorgeous and the seafood is amazing. Oh and Salamanca (their plaza mayor is ... breathtaking!). English speaking: Take a spanish phrase book because they appreciate it if you attempt to speak their language, however there are lots of places (mainly tourist spots) where they do speak english. Everyone is soooo friendly and if you just ask around you'll find someone (ablas ingles is how you ask if they speak english) Wireless: they have starbucks with wireless and a TON of different hot spots. Most of the cafe's will have it. Also, they have the signs saying WiFi... so its hard to miss. Travel: use lots of buses!! They are inexpensive and get you EVERYWHERE! However, its faster to take Renfe (the train system). a guide book will help you immensley. Spain is a gorgeous country and you have to try all the different types of food! jamon serrano, paella, the pastries... oh gosh. you'll have an amazing tim

Traveling to Spain: Help with plug adapters, please
Traveling to Spain: Help with plug adapters, please!?
I'm going to Spain for a couple of months and I would like to bring along my laptop, hair dryer, and curling iron. I've been trying to figure out what sorts of adapters/converters I need.. but I'm really confused and scared I will break my things! I live in Canada so that's what all of my devices are currently set up to work with. My laptop info: The AC/DC adapter says "input 100-240V, 1.2A, 50-60Hz LPS" and "output 19V, 1.58A" The laptop itself says "DC rating 19V --- 1,58A". The line separating the two is an odd symbol I'm not familiar with, it's like and "=" sign except the bottom part is made up of dashes. Hairdryer: 125V AC 60Hz 1875W Curling Iron: 125V AC 60Hz 300W So if anyone could tell me the things I need to buy to use these devices in Spain I would really appreciate it!!!

Answer 1 :
Spain is all 220, not 110 like Canada. Your hair appliances will blow up there. Step down transformers are very expensive, Can you afford to just buy these when you are there? As for the laptop, sounds like you should be able to just buy a plug adaptor, and away you go. Check with electronics specialists, (not a store, but an electronics repair facility) to make sure.
Answer 2 :
You should go to a luggage shop. They will help you out with everything you need. You'll need an adapter for each item (might as well, right? Cause, you know, you may want to have them all plugged in at the same time. You know, it's actually easier to just go spend twenty dollars and buy a new curling iron and hair dryer that are automatically dual voltage. I'd say go get something for the laptop, but it's already dual voltage. That's what the 100 - 240V means. It's really quite common, these days. You CELLPHONE is going to be an issue, too. Get a solar charger, if you want...my friend loved hers, and my phone (which I was only using to take photos for IT) ruined the battery on the DC voltage. I'd be careful about charging batteries there. But then, it might just be that mine was getting to the end of its life. Go to Wal-mart or Target and pick up new hair appliances. It's easier, and less expensive, and less space/weight in your luggage. The adapters are easily purchased in Spain for about the same price, anyway. They sell them at hardware stores...there's two or more hardware stores on every block in Spain!
Answer 3 :
It appears that your laptop is OK. Just in case it is an older model, check if there is a switch under the the adapter for switching from 100 volts to 240 volts. Switch it over to 240 for Spain if there is. Otherwise it is ok to use as it is. You will, however need a plug adaptor. Spanish power sockets are round holes with two round pins. So buy an approprite adaptor. They sell them at all good airports. Your hairdryer and curling iron will overheat and melt or even burst into flames in Spain. You need a 240/220 to 110 volt power transformer for these in Spain. You can buy these cheaply on the internet from Radio Shack / Maplins or whatever the electronic geek stores call themselves in your country. Spain runs on 220 volts. you can use 240 volt appliances in Spain. Canada runs on 110 volts. Your hotel may have hairdriers in the rooms. Check online and save some money. It may be cheaper to buy a new (dual voltage) curling iron in Spain

http://www.laptopical.com/laptop-hold-baggage.html :] There you go.
Answer 2 :
If you want your laptop stolen then pack away...if not carry it on the plane.
Answer 3 :
I wouldn't suggest it.....if your luggage ends up 'lost' you are out of luck...
Answer 4 :
you should probably check the spanish flight regulations but I know in the US it's required to carry-on laptops and put them, separately, in the security x-ray machine (outside of the carry-on luggage). It's not allowed to put them in your checked luggage. Other countries might be the same way. Either way, I would carry it on rather than check it because your luggage could get lost and then your computer would be gone! Also, there's a small chance the baggage workers could steal it, especially if you do not have a lock on your luggage.
Answer 5 :
It's safest to take it as carry on

Question about electricity in Spain
Question about electricity in Spain.?
The information on my laptop cord, digital camera battery charger cord, and cell phone charger cord all say: input 100-240V 50-60 Hz My alarm clock says: 120V 60Hz Will these work in Spain, as long as I get an outlet adapter I am plug them into the wall? so can someone actually answer my question? Will they or will they not work? I know now the alarm clock won't but what about the others??
Other - Spain - 5 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Your alarm clock won't, but that "240" indicates that they take the higher voltage there. In fact, the clock might just be really funny there. I had a friend who plugged her clock into the wall in Spain. We thought everything was fine at first...it SEEMED to be working okay...then we looked up about ten minutes later, and almost an hour had passed! My experience...somehow, those rechargeable batteries don't charge right afterwards... Check, too, your hair appliances, etc. Those can be bought in dual voltage. In fact, if what you have isn't, splurge the extra $10 or so per each, and get them.
Answer 2 :
CALL THE FIREFIGHTERS! Another American in town! The voltage in Spain is 220 volts. If you plug in your US toys, there will be a big bang, the trip switches will go, and your toy may melt and burst into flames. Forget adaptors, they are often more expensive than buying new chargers which can work in 220 volt areas. Alarm clock? Buy a battery one You will not to need new camera and cellphone chargers if there is a 220/240 voltage switch on the chargers. The voltage on the charger cords does not matter. What is important is what is written on the chargers. IF IN DOUBT CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER. and buy 220/240 volt chargers. They are not expensive. Better safe than sorry. The items you may require are available in in Spain. Have a great time in Spain!
Answer 3 :
I'm using my laptop to write this. I bought it in the UK and everything is fine. You need a European adapter for the plug.
Answer 4 :
I live in Spain and my friend from the US often brings stuff over here. Some things work but others don't. Her crockpot burned out but her laptop works fine with an adaptor but I suppose it depends what type of charger you have.
Answer 5 :
The others - yes. I buy some electrical equipment in the UK that all work in Spain with a 3 to 2 plug adaptor

What are the power converter requirements to use my laptop in Europe
What are the power converter requirements to use my laptop in Europe?
Dell D410. Going to Czech Republic, France, and Spain. I've read various things on the Internet. Some say to use a converter, some say don't. And I cannot find anything on the Dell site that answers the question. Have you done this? If so, what is the safest, easiest way? Thanks for the answer. Somebody here suggested I chat with Dell online. They gave me the answer. (No converter needed, just an adapter.)

Been to Europe 6 years. The normal power situation is double.over there. 110 here, 220 there. Power converters or adapters are essential if your laptop doesn't have one. They are actually inexpensive and readily available over there.
Answer 2 :
bon voyage u'r notebook & power adapter are built to operate globally all u gotta get is a plug adapter kit, as below http://www.ciao.co.uk/APC_International_Notebook_Plug_Adapter_Kit_C6_3_Prong_Power_cable_kit__5634012 the reason being that the power plug / sockets in different countries are shaped different true voltage levels are different, but all u got to do is read the power adapter specifications which should read 100 - 250 volts input, 50 / 60 hz your output is constant 19.5 volts dc, irrespect of input voltage check it out & let me know

Going to Spain in October 07 and just wondering is this allowed or is it against airport security?

Answer 1 :
You can bring it with you, just be prepared to have it turned off during take off and landing.
Answer 2 :
I thing is against because if it uses wireless stuff then it could interfere with plane, or so they say.
Answer 3 :
Yes, you can bring it on the plane- it will just have to go through security check.
Answer 4 :
does the ariplane have wireless?
Answer 5 :
You can bring your laptop. You normally have to run it through the x-ray outside of the traveling case though.
Answer 6 :
You are allowed to bring it onto the airplane. The major requirement with bringing laptops on airplanes is that, when you go through security, you have to remove it from whatever bag it may be in and be sent through the scanner by itself.
Answer 7 :
It's allowed I do it every week when I fly.
Answer 8 :
I took one on the plane with me to Canada from the U.S. last week without a problem. The rules seem to change alot so I would call the airlines before I assumed that they would let you take it on. Good luck!
Answer 9 :
Yes you can bring a lap top computer in a plane.
Answer 10 :
ITS OK TO BRING IT IN!
Answer 11 :
You can bring a laptop. They might make you turn it on to show it's working and not a fake. You can only use it during certain times, but they'll let you know.
Answer 12 :
No, you can bring it (unless the laws are different for traveling outside the country-not sure, always traveled in the US). You do have to take it out of the case at the airport though and put it in a seperate bin when they x-ray it. And you can't have it on during take off and landing, but the rest of the time it's usually okay, unless they tell you otherwise.
Answer 13 :
Yes you are allowed to bring a laptop on an airplane. You will have to take it out of its case to get through security but other than that there is no problem. Make sure to bring an extra battery though so you don't run out of power on the way to Spain.
Answer 14 :
You are allowed too but make sure to take it out of its bag/case at the security checkpoint because if you send it through the x ray machine in the bag, they will take it out and bring you to the side for extra security screening. Take it out and you move on through no problem
Answer 15 :
you can take them on board, but keep an eye on it. people tend to steal from the security area, laptops are a main target
Answer 16 :
Laptops are allowed. You just have to take them out of their case before you run them through xray.
Answer 17 :
yes it is allowed they may ask you to turn it on but you cannot use the Internet on the plane but yes i belive that you can
Answer 18 :
It depends on the airlines you are using. If you are using modern airlines you can connect your laptop to the internet too.
Answer 19 :
Yes you are :) I have taken mine to the USA and all over Europe. I got back from a two week holiday in Portugal on monday where I took my lappy. They even allow you to use it in the air, offline of course :) Hope that helps and have a great time in Spain!
Answer 20 :
your allowed but only if your not on internet, e-mailing, or communicating with anyone some laptops have a plane safe mode, its worth checking to see

You can bring it with you, just be prepared to have it turned off during take off and landing.

Will I be able to use my laptop on a plane
Will I be able to use my laptop on a plane?
Hi! I'm 16 and about to go to Europe for the first time on Thursday night. We have to take and 11 hour flight to Spain from Miami. I know I won't be able to get Internet on the plane but do you think I would be able to take it out and watch movies and stuff on it? Things that don't require Internet? My laptop isn't too big (It's the average size for a Toshiba computer) and I have headphones so it's not like everyone on the flight would hear what I was doing or anything. Thanks!
Air Travel - 7 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Yes you are able to do that, its not breaking any rules.
Answer 2 :
Yes, that is allowed. I love watching movies on my laptop during long flights... A 2-hour movie really helps time pass!
Answer 3 :
Yes . Go ahead . Enjoy :)
Answer 4 :
Yes! Although, in the beginning of takeoff, all electronics will be asked to remain off due to interference with radar signals from the control room in the plane. Usually, this happens for only 10 to 20 minutes while in flight. The flight attendant will announce when all electronics can be turned on again. Usually, some planes don't have internet access. But planes flying to foreign countries sometimes offer free Wi-Fi connections :) So yes, you CAN watch movies and perhaps surf the web. Have fun on your trip, stay safe!
Answer 5 :
Why not? Millions of people do this everyday and they don't get in trouble.
Answer 6 :
Sounds really cool, hope you have fun in Europe- I loved it when I went there. At some points, maybe just the beginning, technology may have to be off. But for the most part, you will be able to use it. The flight attendants will announce when it is/will be allowed, and/or a light over head with a technology icon will start glowing.
Answer 7 :
Yes you may use your Laptop, but only while in flight. Not on take off or landing. Im sure the flight attendant will go over the rules after you have boarded

I"m American about to travel to Europe and i'm taking my laptop. What do I need for me to plug in my laptop
I"m American about to travel to Europe and i'm taking my laptop. What do I need for me to plug in my laptop?
I'm heading to Spain and my laptop adapter says it ranges from about a 110 V- 240, and also a 50-60 hz scale. Do I just use a power adapter or a voltage converter? Both? PLEASE HELP!
Other - Europe - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
We purchased a plug adapter at local electric shop that converters North American plug to fit their three prong round outlets.........
Answer 2 :
You'll be OK voltage-wise. But buy a Spanish cable once you're there.
Answer 3 :
Most of Europe (except Britain, Ireland, and perhaps one or two other places) use a standard two-prong round outlet. If your laptop is good up to 240V then you're fine, you won't need to pack along a bulky converter; all you'll need is a simple plug adapter, which you should be able to find in any electronics shop. I'd recommend buying them stateside, but you can often find things like that in airports or other traveler-frequented areas... sometimes even hotels and hostels sell them. One tip, though: some older outlets will have a reverse grounding prong, usually on the upper side, so make sure whatever plug adapter you get has a hole for it (if it's the "full round" variety) or just get the narrow plug variety, which is usually narrow, six-sided and just has the two round prongs... a ground sticking out from the wall outlet wouldn't hinder that kind. It might not be a bad idea to have two or three of those, actually, in case you bring along one or two other appliances which are also 110-240V compliant. Just remember that if your travels DO take you towards the British Isles that their plugs are not standard European--they have those odd, bulky three-pronged plugs.
Answer 4 :
Don't just buy a cheap plug adapter---spend the extra money and buy a voltage converter. You can get a good one from places like Radio Shack for about $20. For something as expensive as a computer, you want to make sure it's protected. Many small appliances blow up when trying to use just a plug adapter

British Television in Spain
British Television in Spain?
I'm going to stay in Spain for one month and have requested english television and internet access...i have been informed that the apartment has sky box but i need to take my own sky card - i don't have sky here so can't do this. Anyone got any suggestions of ways can I get english television channels over there? I will have internet and laptop if that can help? thanks :)
Other - Spain - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
You could buy a free to air card and see all the channels (but with a normal sky box you should be able to see BBC, ITV, just not not channel 4 or 5). A sky free to air card will cost you about 50 Euros. Try britsat, easisat, eurosat, and a few others in search engines (they are all based in and around barcelona and the costa brava - if that's nowhere near where you're going just type "UK SKY Madrid, or wherever you'll be), and you should find out pretty quickly. You may also be able to sell on the card to the owner of the place you're renting. If you want subscrition channels, then you'll pay exactly the same as you'd pay in UK (i.e. sky movies, sky sports, etc) and again, can arrange this with a credit card, or a uk bank account. More details on those webs too. good luck!
Answer 2 :
You could do what I do and watch TV on my laptop with Slingbox, it's brilliant. http://uk.slingmedia.com/
Answer 3 :
In addition to what wet26 just said (to get more free TV channels on your computer), I suggest to try Zattoo. It's free, it's fast, you'll like it!
Answer 4 :
Be like me, I live in Spain and don't watch television, certainly not UK TV. There is so much to do here rather than watch TV. Your only here for a month, go out and enjoy this beautiful country

Wireless Internet in Spain
Wireless Internet in Spain?
I am going to Spain for about a month or maybe a little longer, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a temporary air-card service I could use with my laptop while I'm there. I'm not staying in a hotel. I'm going for a study abroad program and I will be staying with a family. I am specifically looking for a *temporary air-card* for my laptop. IE Cellular Broadband Card.
Other - Spain - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
You can probably get something in the hotel. Just ask ¿Hay algún tipo de tarjeta de conexión inalámbrica a Internet que me pasa por durante mi estancia?
Answer 2 :
Check with your cellphone provider. I know that verizon sells one. I think it's an additional service per month. You MUST check to make sure it will work there. Cell service won't if you're from the US, unless you make sure it does. Most phones need to be "unlocked" for use in Europe. If you're from another country, I don't know what the specs are, which is why your cell phone/internet providers are the best people to speak to

What do I need to power my American devices in Europe
What do I need to power my American devices in Europe?
I will be traveling to Spain and possibly other European countries, and I want to be able to plug in my iPhone, my HP laptop, my hair dryer and straightener, and possibly other common electrical and electronic devices. I know I will need a plug converter for the things that don't need their voltage converted, but which of my things WILL need a voltage converter? And can anyone suggest a good one? Thanks!
Other - Europe - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
look on the back of the item or find the instructions to see what voltage they accept. Laptops are now mostly dual voltage but do check; anything you plug in to European voltages that doesn't accept 220V WILL blow up. don't forget your travel insurance with all this stuff.
Answer 2 :
Check out Frys Electronics or Radio Shack they have converters 220V to 120V get one with around 50W available power. Most of the electronics Laptops are working from 100V to 250V so no transformer is need it, however you will need plug converter to adjust to EU outlets, and they are available at Fry or Radio Shack Target and many other places. Cost from $1 to $15.
Answer 3 :
Look at the brick on the items you're bringing (if the big chunky thing that often either plugs directly into the wall or has cords coming out of it that you plug into the wall). If the brick says 110V-240V or something along those lines, you don't need a power converter. Using one will actually fry your electronics, so check before you plug anything in. Most items nowadays come equipped to handle110V-240V, so converters are slowly becoming useless. Be careful with your hair straightener though, certain brands (like CHI) won't work abroad. You will however need plug adaptors, so be sure to buy those

Answer 2 :
This offen come up after downloads from microsoft, easly removed download WGA Notification tool http://www.majorgeeks.com/RemoveWGA_d5170.html used it many a time
Answer 3 :
If you bought your laptop for dirt cheap from a shady shop it is probably a pirated (illegal) version of Windows. If that is the case, if you call Microsoft they will just tell you to buy Windows. However, if you bought your laptop for a reputable dealer, just give microsoft's customer service a call. Here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295539 Never buy technology from non-reputable dealers. Piracy steals money from developers and it's illegal.
Answer 4 :
Hi meanmachine, If you purchased Windows 7 from a reputable retailer or Microsoft Partner, then you do have genuine Windows. If this is the case it sounds like you did not activate Windows 7. In order to activate now, you will need to call Microsoft - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18715-activate-windows-7-phone.html If you are unsure if your copy of Windows 7 is genuine, visit http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/genuine to learn more. Should I replace my chunky laptop with an Ipad for studying abroad?
Hello- I am going to Spain in the fall to study and I really don't want to take my huge HP laptop over there. Rather, I would like to get an Ipad instead so I can travel easily with it. I love my iPhone and iTouch and I am very used to these products. Would this be a smart idea?

It would be a great idea for reaasons you mentioned yourself. Travelling with a light simple cool gadget is much better than carrying your laptop. In case you would have to write a project or smth you can always use the pc's from the university. I did the same when i came to study in germany. Have fun in spain it's an amazing country.
Answer 3 :
It's a good idea, but why not carry both? You could leave your laptop at home in Spain. I'm suggesting that because you might need access to your computer (assuming you have important work on it). The iPad can only take you so far as a computer, it has some shortfalls. If you can afford it, why not think of buying a netbook/MacBook Air rather than an iPad? They're portable and allow you have the full potential of a computer rather than a tablet

Hello- I am going to Spain in the fall to study and I really don't want to take my huge HP laptop over there. Rather, I would like to get an Ipad instead so I can travel easily with it. I love my iPhone and iTouch and I am very used to these products. Would this be a smart idea?

How do I know if my buyer is a really a scammer
How do I know if my buyer is a really a scammer?
Ok soo....I'm on ebay selling my used laptop and the bid ended today.. But I've got a man from spain who says he wants to give me $3000 for my hp compaq (used) and paypal has said that they have received the money. Obviously, it's on hold until i send the tracking number but I wanted to know if I should really send the laptop or is this a scam? What do you think?

Answer 1 :
Hello.Usually,Paypal makes sure the item is paid for up front. So if they said it's paid for-it could be.What you should do is speak with them again and have them give you some kind of Proof the money is there.Just in case, their no.is 1(888)221.1161 You may have had the number already but you still need to call them and get some kind of proof that the laptop is paid for.Best of luck to ya,Hope this helps.
Answer 2 :
Check your paypal account. Do you see the money on hold or not? Yes, Paypal often hits sellers with a 21-day hold, but it does hide the money. It just freezes it. * Spain is a known fraud country with scam problems. * Paypal doesn't send emails asking you send proof that the item has been sent to a non-paypal address. By the way, let's say the money is in the account. You ship and then the buyer says they didn't authorize the purchase. Paypal would reverse it. You should NEVER send an expensive item outside the US/CANADA and the UK.
Answer 3 :
Scammer. THere are too many ways to deceive PayPal. It happens all the time. And PayPal won't take the "hit". You will. Use the Craigslist approach for expensive items. Accept only cash and meet in person. Even if you have to sell it for less money. Get the cash in your hand. The "Spain" buyer is the key to the scam. They will always pay any price you ask. Since they have no intention of paying you a penny

Will I have Internet on an international flight
Will I have Internet on an international flight?
I am going on an 11 hour flight to Spain tommorow night and I'm planning on bringing my laptop to use on the flight. I thought I wouldn't have Internet because I will be on a plane, but I was told my someone on here that there may actually be Internet on the flight because it is international. Is this true? Thanks!
Air Travel - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
That completely depends on their airline and the type of aircraft...
Answer 2 :
Check the airlines website. Delta was offering free wifi over christmas on some flights but now they are charging for it. Sometimes you won't know until you get there because only some planes have been equipped for internet. The internet on the delta flights was a little slow but still was nice to have.
Answer 3 :
No. Take a book.
Answer 4 :
Most likely, no. Lufthansa is testing an over-water internet system but you are not traveling to Germany. The current system used by US carriers is called Gogo. Gogo uses modified cell phone towers to direct internet signals toward the sky. It currently works only within the continental US and within 100 miles of the border

It's not essential but could be nice to have. For most people, using a laptop to access the internet is better than using a phone. In the USA there are coffee shops and other business everywhere that offer free wireless internet - but you need your own computer. Internet cafes are much more common in Europe than in the USA and the cafes have computers you can use for a small fee. You can also usually use them for checking the digital photos you might take on the trip. your hotel may have a "Business Center" with Internet-conneced computers you can use for a fee (ask), Finding out if the hotel offers Internet for guests may help you decide. If it doesn't there is little reason to take the laptop. if it does, make sure you know how much it costs, if it's wireless or hard-wire, and where it's available. Some hotels that advertise Internet only offer it in the lobby and not the rooms. Most electronics (like your PSP and almost certainly your laptop) accept any voltage and all you need is a plug adapter. look on the power supply - it will say something like "Input 100v - 240v" if it accepts any voltage. Plug adapters are sold at electronics stores like BestBuy & Radio Shack, and often at luggage shops. Make sure the adapter fits the plugs before leaving home - luggage shops usually only sell adapters to fit 2-prong USA plugs, but your laptop almost certainly has a 3-prong plug. You may also want to get a combination adapter & surge protector. Below is an example, but i got mine at BestBuy: http://studenttravel.about.com/od/techtoys/gr/electricadapter.htm

Do I have to pay taxes if I buy a laptop computer when visiting Gibraltar
Do I have to pay taxes if I buy a laptop computer when visiting Gibraltar?
I am an American who will be in Gibraltar. I will be passing back through Spain on my way to Morocco later that day. If I purchase a laptop in Gibraltar, will I have to pay taxes on my way out? To whom will taxes be paid? How much will taxes be on a 1000 E computer?
Andalucia - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Yes you will have to pay taxes on the computer... I don't know the amount...(that would depend on the cost of the laptop) But...I have just managed to get hold of a friend who goes shopping in gibraltar every so often...and asked him if he knew the answer to your question He said it isn't really worth your while to buy it there, as you not only have to pay the taxes, but you need a special international guarantee, which depending on where you live, may be impossible to have endorsed or be able to claim on. In which case your "inexpensive" laptop will have cost you a "pretty penny" if you have to pay to have it fixed or replaced. Gibraltar is great for cigarettes, certain liquors, some english food from the Safeway supermarket (articles not easily found in Spain), some clothes in the british shops....And filling your cars tank on your way out! By the way, my friend just purchased a laptop in Fuengirola at "Telephone Tinas" shop, says the price was excellent (about 765 euros), the brand well known, and with a 2 year guarantee.
Answer 2 :
Not sure, but something not to forget is that you will pay taxes on purchases over $400 you bring back to the States in addition to any you pay abroad. Normally you can get the VAT refunded when you leave a country

Why do flies keep landing on my laptop screen?

bugspray works best.
Answer 2 :
Try to ask them in spanish. You might go to www.freetranslation.com and try there for free.
Answer 3 :
theyre just attracted to the light and warmth oh and www.freetranslation.com isnt always accurate.
Answer 4 :
I think it's bescause you are small in the pants
Answer 5 :
Get rid of em
Answer 6 :
Try to keep a glass of cheap spanish wine nearby. They'll get pissed as farts and you can work in peace with your computer and a decent glass of white. Flies prefer red, by the way.
Answer 7 :
They simply like to BASQUE in the sun. I use fresh lemon juice around{not on} my laptop. Probably need to avoid the Spanish fly until needed

If i take my laptop on the plane will they ask me questions?
i want to take my laptop on the plane but, im scared while i go through safety check they will think its a bomb... (im paranoid like that) so heres my question... am i aloud to take it on board? and will they question you about the laptop? travelling from UK to Spain Size of laptop: Notebook

Answer 1 :
first off lol, they won't think of it as a bomb......they'll ask u to take the laptop out of its bag and just check. secondly, u ARE allowed to take your laptop on the plane. just that you can't use it during take-off or landing. air hostesses will even notify you of that. as soon as the seat belt sign goes off after take-off, you can use your laptop on the plane then during landing, they will notify you again and you will have to switch it off!
Answer 2 :
It's spelt "allowed". They X ray it. The end.
Answer 3 :
Yes, you are 'allowed' to take a laptop on board an aircraft. You will be asked to remove it from the bag and put it into a separate container/bin for x-ray scanning. Comply with the instructions regarding its use during the flight and you will be ok

Would it be more likely for my laptop to be stolen in Valencia, Spain, in an apartment or in Atlanta, Georgia, in a dorm room?

Answer 1 :
Why don't you just get protection, and back up your work? There's a program called "Lo-Jack", that you put on your computer, and if it is stolen, you contact the people and the satellite locates it.
Answer 2 :
Thieves are mainly opportunists, so it would depend upon how likely you are to leave it plain sight and unguarded in either of those locations

Does using my laptop in a different country for so long ruin the battery life
Does using my laptop in a different country for so long ruin the battery life?
I have been living in Spain for 6 months but bought my laptop in England and I think the battery is running out faster than normal. Is that what happens because of the difference in voltage?
Laptops & Notebooks - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
There is NO difference in voltage, you obviously did not check this before plugging in, did you? Dangerous mistake, if there was a big difference you could have blown up the laptop! In any case the voltage range on most laptops is 110 - 240 v, unless you deliberately look for a european 3 -phase supply it is safe round the world.
Answer 2 :
What brand of laptop are you using? I would check the power supply adaptor that's powering your laptop. Most laptops and camcorders have a wide input range of 100V-240V, so if that is the case, then it should be okay to use worldwide without a voltage converter (though it's always safer to use one anyhow). Laptop batteries tend to lose capacity very quickly, especially if you keep your computer plugged in and never "deep discharge" the battery

Nothing.. When ever I go away, and have no internet, you start to think: wow.. computers are boring..! but when you get back, you just forget again, and carry on! But no, what I did once, is downloaded a lot of the "Internet" like did a few searches in Google, and downloaded it,so you can pretend to browse it! Like download Yahoo Answers, by the time you get a fraction-way through it.. You'll be back home, connected!! But still. I really don't know otherwise mate. Sorry!!

Sorry!!

Electricity converter for USA & Spain
Electricity converter for USA & Spain
I am looking for a good electric converter/transformer (however it is called) for using while in Spain. I need a good one and not just for little electronics like hairdryers, etc...but for laptops. My laptop operates at around 320 watts, so it has to be good enough to take that amount of electricity. The reason I ask is because I have heard that they do not always work for sophisticated electronics like laptops, PS2, etc...Any recommendations on what to look for, brands, etc...? I found a nice one in Staples, but it had a warning not for LAPTOPS. Thanks a lot!! Grego

Answer 1 :
Check your laptop's power supply to see if it's multi-voltage compatible. Most are. If that's the case, what you'll need to find is either a cable that fits a Spanish plug that also plugs into your laptop's transformer (the box in the middle of the power cord) or a plug converter that'll get the right kind of connection off the end of the cord you already have. (This has worked for me moving machines from Australia to the USA and vice versa.)

Answer 1 :
The Private Bay is the biggest torrent trackers site. U need to have bitcomet or utorrent and etc client program in order to download the files. U need to check also what kind of file format it is. Some is Rar files that need to extract, some are avi format. Well, u just need to install K-Lite Mega Codecs, then u should be no problem playing major video file formats on your laptop. http://blog.diyersitzone.net
Answer 2 :
I can watch pretty much any file format on your pc. You just need to get the proper codec so they will play... Some files are in ISO and RAR format which you will need to extract the files before they will play
Answer 3 :
LizzyA, you can download any video and with the proper method or player you can watch them all, check what to do according to the the termination of the file (type or extension actually): 1. .avi: you just said you can watch those in your computer, usually 700 MB for a whole movie. One language and maybe one sub. 2. .rar: your movie is compressed in a bunch of small parts and you need an extracting tool like 7-zip or winrar ( http://www.7-zip.org/download.html or http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm ). After the decompression your movie could be an .avi file or a VIDEO_TS folder containing about 10 files named .BUP, .IFO and :VOB). our movie could be of any size. 3. VIDEO_TS: This is the real DVD movie meaning clear and with menus and maybe more than one language and subs. This can be played with almost any DVD player program that came your laptop or you can download VLC player from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ and it will play it for you. Your movie would be about 4GB in size. 4. .iso: It is an image of the movie meaning is the real deal like VIDEOP_TS but you need to mount it in a virtual drive or burn it to watch it. A free virtual drive is Daemon Tools from http://www.daemon-tools.cc/downloads These are the most common movie files you are going to find. If you are not going to burn those files and you only want english language without subs you should stick to .avi files. Best Regard

i have even tried using a uk proxy server which works fine wile surfing the net on my laptop but when i connect my xbox to my laptop it still wont let me download it, can anybody help me is driving me crazy please?

Answer 1 :
Normally that shouldnt be the problem because the UK 360 is sold all across Europe and other regions in the world. Apart from that there is only the US 360. Either the proxy that you are using is not right or your 360 system is rejecting your laptop. My solution would be that try a different proxy or you might have to try some one elses laptop. If it still doesnt work then you might have to change your 360

i'll be travelling to spain by plane soon, and will take laptop. what security checks will i need to go thru?
I've heard that when you go to america they aren't really checking what you have on your laptop, just what your reaction will be. And if you seem nervous they'll take the laptop or hold you for ages etc. And if i'm in that situation, even if my laptop was completely blank, I know i'll be nervous and look shifty. So just wondering what its like when flying to Spain - do they just scan it to make sure its not a bomb and thats it? PS, before you all give me dirty looks, there's no child porn on my laptop. <_<

Answer 1 :
The security checks for flying to Spain will be just like the security checks for flying in the US. Don't worry about it. No one is going to check your laptop content (unless you fly EL AL to Israel where they have increased security procedures, for good reason).
Answer 2 :
they will make you take your laptop out of the bag at the airport and put it throw like other carry on bags. there should be nothing else, as long as it is a aptop you have nothing to worry about

Hi this is so easy , don`t reload windows instead use this free program and choose as best answer: http://www.froggie.sk/7lp64rtm.html
Answer 2 :
start /control panel.date time and language regional settings and "put english"
Answer 3 :
I think the best way is to completely re-install OS with you native language. Sure, there are some languge pack's that convert os, but usually they are working not stable

I will be traveling to Spain with my Hair Straightener and Laptop. What will I need?? Converter or Adapter
I will be traveling to Spain with my Hair Straightener and Laptop. What will I need?? Converter or Adapter?
I am from the United States and will be traveling to Madrid, Spain for a couple of weeks. I plan on taking my Hair Straightener and my Laptop. With the info on my products stated before, I was wondering what I will need... a converter, an adapter or what?? Is there a certain one that works better than others? And where would you recommend buying it? Please help I don't want to fry anything. My HP Laptop Charger has 3 prongs and shows: Wide Range Input Input: 100-240V ~ 1.7A (1,7A) 50-60Hz Output: 18.5V (18,5V) --- 3.5A (3,5A) 65W My Hair Straightener has 2 prongs. I no longer have the box it can in and I don't know if this means anything but the wire shows: CSA Non-Integral SPT-1 300V 105°C FT2 2/18AWG

Answer 1 :
If you go to any specialty place that sells luggage and they usually have converters there. You already have adapter's for you appliances (the thing you use to plug into the wall). A converter just takes the two prong device we use in the states and allows you to plug into an outlet where ever you'll be staying in Madrid. If all else fails, they'll probably sell them in the airport as well...but I wouldn't count on it. I haven't been to Spain in a long time, so I'm not sure of the airport in Madrid anymore. You can also check out best buy or anywhere they'd sell electronics/traveling gear. Good luck and enjoy your trip :) Edit: Why the thumbs down? Whatever...
Answer 2 :
You will ALWAYS need a SPANISH plug adapter...it's got two ROUND prongs, Get one that has three holes on the female side for your computer...according to your information, you won't need a voltage converter for it. You can buy a dual voltage hair appliance. I recommend it...it's a good thing to have...they are much simpler to use. If you don't want to, you'll probably spend as much for the converter to use it. Go to any store that sells luggage, and ask them for help. You can bring along the information you posted, but I can tell you, the computer is dual voltage, and the hair straightener is probably not. BTW, plug adapters are readily available in Spain at hardware stores, for about 3€. There's a hardware store or two on just about any block in Madrid. Check the BODY of the hair straightener, and see if it doesn't have that 100 - 220 or 240 V symbol somewhere, or if it says "dual voltage" anywhere. Older appliances have a switch, but they are making them now that switch automatically.
Answer 3 :
you need an adapter plug (a plug with 2 round prongs) for your computer. that is what the Input: 100-240V means (it can be used in US- 110 V and Europe -220 V) If the cord on your iron doesn't also show that (,Input: 100-240V ) then you will need a CONVERTER AND an adapter plug for your iron, which is big and cumbersome and not worth it... go without the iron, or buy a cheap one here (20 euros) for the duration. Happy travels PS- you can buy the adapter plug in any 'Ferreteria' (hardware shop) in Spain, and they are cheap, only a couple of euros

Where can I get a replacement laptop keyboard
Where can I get a replacement laptop keyboard?
I need to purchase a Spanish Toshiba Satellite A10 Pro keyboard to be delivered either to Spain or to the UK. I've looked for a while and only found English ones. I was wondering if someone can shed some light on the subject for me. Many thanks. Yeah, they're different, a Spanish one has keys for Ñ, Ç, ¿, ¡, ª and º, which an English one doesn't have.

How to install English Vista on Spanish Laptop
How to install English Vista on Spanish Laptop?
I have a Spanish HP Laptop that came with Vista Home Premium in English. I also have a OEM English vista with an Ultimate key that came with my desktop. Can I use the english disk to install on the laptop and just use the activation key that came with the laptop? They said that the disk contains all versions of vista so using the key of the laptop will only activate the home premium edition. Am I allowed to do this? I have no way of getting English pre-installed on my laptop here in spain. Oops, only noticed now, I meant to say a HP Laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium in Spanish. Can I use my english Vista DVD and use the Laptop's Serial Key to change the OS to english
