where is my laptop more likely to be stolen?
Would it be more likely for my laptop to be stolen in Valencia, Spain, in an apartment or in Atlanta, Georgia, in a dorm room?

Why don't you just get protection, and back up your work? There's a program called "Lo-Jack", that you put on your computer, and if it is stolen, you contact the people and the satellite locates it.

Thieves are mainly opportunists, so it would depend upon how likely you are to leave it plain sight and unguarded in either of those locations
